Certain things we do just because they are the right thing to do.
We help the people in our community just because it feels good.
Maybe we comfort someone who is ill.
Or lend a hand to someone who is struggling.
These things we just do naturally.
Without a thought of a reward or compensation.
Not that there aren't things we do for exchange.
Such as a job or run a business or sell a product.
Yet there are other sides of our life that do not require the same type of exchange.
And people can feel it.
People can feel when we are truly being in service or just looking out for ourselves.
What we don't often realize, is that by coming from a generous place we are actually investing ourselves.
We are investing in the collective good of the people around us.
And we may not realize it, but one day that investment will come back to us.
Not in the way we expect.
Not in a manner we may foresee.
They will rally to our side and support us as we once supported them.
Not out of obligation or payment.
They do it because they have experienced the generosity of our heart.
We may not even be the recipient of their generosity.
Perhaps it is someone else in need who sees the benefit.
For when we do good for other without thought of our reward, we improve everyone's lives.
And when the entire community is doing better, we thrive as well.
Just when we need it most.
And that surprise will bring us tears of joy.
So where have you given from a heart-centered place?
How have you contributed to making the entire community better?
