Taking time to do something new has many benefits.

Yet often, we don't even try.

We get stuck in doing things the way we always have.

For it is easy to get lulled into a sense of comfort.

The idea of trying to do things differently can be disturbing.

Even though by opening up to a new approach is actually healthy for us.

There is this tension we carry inside of us that attracts and repels us at the same time.

Do we change and face the unknown?

This can be very scary to us.

Or do we stay in our comfort zone and stick to what we know?

Either way we will struggle.

On the one hand, when we face the unknown we have to grow and stretch our physical or emotional muscles.

On the other hand, we get caught in the rut of complacency and develop of sense of boredom and stagnation.

The rut is known.

It is comfortable.

And it does not serve our growth as human beings.

The unknown may be fraught with dangers.

It may lead to pain and disappointment.

And it may bring us to a place of confidence and joy.

A place of new wonders and adventures.

Yet we will never know until we take that first step.

Until we make the decision and act on it.

To move forward into a place of uncertainty.

However, when we do it voluntarily we can feel a sense of empowerment.

For it is our choice.

Not an easy choice to make.

Yet a powerful choice all the same.

So scheduling even a little time in our day to learn something new, try something new, can have powerful results.

We don't have to scale up the mountain in one day.

We can do it just an inch at a time.

And over the days, weeks and months that pass, we will find ourselves reaching new heights.

From those new heights we will see grand vistas never before imagined.
