When we look for healing, sometimes we feel we need a big experience.
We want to go deep quickly so we can get at the root of it all.
And to go deep we expect things to get rough.
These expectations cause us to tense up.
They can cause our nervous system to shut down in fear of something harsh about to happen.
We prepare for an excruciating time.
And sometimes that does happen.
Sometimes the things we fear do happen.
Yet sometimes they don't.
The process and experience we go through can be something quite different.
For the healing path is one that is full of mystery and surprises.
It all depends on the container that the guides we work with hold.
If the energetic container is clean, deep, and gentle, our process can reflect that.
Deep does not mean we have to suffer through the process.
Our healing does not have to be a torturous experience.
In fact, when we go the gentle route, our nervous system relaxes and sometimes we can actually go deeper compared to strong, overpowering experience.
Going through our past anguish in full force does not mean we are releasing more trauma than the gentle approach.
Our healing can be both gentle and deep at the same time.
And indeed, when we do take the gentle and deep approach, our nervous system responds more quickly to our process.
We flow with the ups and downs of our healing journey with more ease.
It takes time for the nervous to process our experiences, and when we rush the process we can actually cause more trauma.
We are creating the same conditions that causes our nervous systems to go in fight, flight or freeze to begin with.
The intensity of the experience is not always an indication of the depth of the healing.
Having the time and space to truly process the feelings and emotions that are stored in our bodies.
Healing is not abut getting an adrenalin rush in order to feel better.
It is about acknowledging the body's need for safety.
For safety is cultivated from a slow and deliberate movement to feel what has been stored up inside of us.
Taking the time to be gentle can actually create a greater depth of healing.
So where in your own life can you use a gentle and deep approach to your own healing?
