Connection and Community are more valuable than we think. They are important to so many aspects of our lives. From health to relationships, from success to fulfillment.Yet we often do not take the time to cultivate community in our lives. In this virtual world of clicks and likes we think our community is virtual. That because we can connect to people around the world, we have a large base.Yet there is a big difference between people we connect with virtually and in real life.Proximity is a huge factor. When your best friend is down the street, or the hallway, from where you live, you naturally see them more. You talk more. You connect more. The people we interact with on a weekly or daily basis in person are far closer to us than those on the other side of a screen. As we build tighter relationships with those who are physically close to us, they are here to support us.As we are here to support them. They support us in a myriad of ways. They feed our cat when we're away.Water the plants.Take us to the emergency room when no one else is around. They give us a should to cry on when our heart breaks. They come over for dinner and drinks for no special reason. And we do the same for them. These people, as many or as few as they are, are our tribe. They are the ones we connect with physically, emotionally, energetically, spiritually. And that connection does more to serve and support us than we know.It helps us to live longer and healthier lives. It gives us more confidence and certainty. It puts a smile on our face when we just think about them. Are you missing community in your life?Ask yourself, what am I doing to build community?Let's not put it on to other people.Let's take the responsibility and initiate it ourselves. We will help others, as we help ourselves. And we will all be better off for it!
