Join Noreen Sumpter on Beyond Potential: Live Life Your Way as Noreen talks about sustainability and fashion and what it means for all of us.
Noreen starts the shoe by bringing up her topic: sustainability. She brings up the millennial way of trying to reuse by selling things online. Noreen wonders about what is truly happening with our waste and our electronic waste. She continues about how we don’t know how much trash we use because we don’t see it. Noreen talks about various ways of sustainability like wearing clothes until they’re worn, thrifting, and getting change from recycling bottles. Noreen continues by going back to clothes and how extra clothes go to third-world countries.
Noreen continues her conversation about companies that are sustainable and starts with the pros and cons of Rent the Runway. Some of the various trends Noreen mentions is, going to the Buffalo Exchange, Freecylce, and even simple clothing swaps that women hold. Noreen continues about H&M, and what they do about waste, along with other big companies. She ponders about the fact that we could potentially never make another piece of clothing and we might be alright. Noreen talks more about recycling and sustainability, specifically speaking of baby clothes.
Noreen talks about being consistent with her radio show and how recycling is better so you won’t have to litter. She pays attention to what is going on around her and in other countries. Noreen believes everyone has enough clothes and we don’t need to continue buying new clothes if we’re not going to wear them. Noreen said when she was younger she made clothes when she didn’t have enough money. She doesn’t like shopping, but she does if she needs too. Noreen does not mind wearing the same clothes multiple times because no one will notice. If you have multiple clothes that you don’t wear you should give your clothes away to north face, timberlands, and goodwill. Earth911 gives out multiple resources where you can donate your clothes. There is multiple ways to recycle clothing, such as donating your clothes to the homeless. Most companies when you give your clothes back to them you will receive a coupon and if you give away old jeans it can be used for installation in your home. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is the best way to go!
Noreen tells the listeners to do what you want to do in life. It’s all about the passion you have for your work and in order for you to have passion, you need to have a plan for yourself. You need to gather your ideas to make sure your work flourishes. Noreen says what happened today is a learning experience for her and that didn’t discourage her from continuing her radio show today. She then continued talking about recycling and if you want to recycle plastic bottles, make sure they are not contaminated because it won’t be recycled. Before you recycle anything make sure the product is washed. When Noreen went to other countries she noticed they were burning products, which is not healthy and can be harmful to the environment.
