2024/12/11-Retrieving the True, Unique You

[NEW EPISODE] Retrieving the True, Unique You!

I was a dentist in NYC for over 35 years and it has helped me understand the science & psychology of our minds, bodies, thoughts & behaviors. In my present work as a Coach, Hypnotherapist, Speaker & Visual Artist, my primary mission is to decrease suffering, at both the personal and societal levels. One way to do this is by helping you to recall & retrieve the TRUE, unique & fabulous you, so that you can start living your WHY (purpose). This becomes a 'gift' to those around you & to the world.

Are you feeling that it's time to make a change…or many? It starts by listening to your body & heart and then, your mind. Then, you can start transforming your unhelpful, negative & limiting subconscious beliefs & thoughts. You can learn how to reprogram and upgrade your mental, emotional, physical and even, spiritual 'operating system', so that you can achieve better health (mental, physical, emotional) and more joy, success & fulfillment in your life, while aligning to the authentic you.

00:04:55.980 --> 00:04:58.339 Linda Marsanico: welcome to the show, Gigi.

00:04:58.340 --> 00:05:01.039 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So nice to be here, Linda, thank you for that.

00:05:02.710 --> 00:05:07.700 Linda Marsanico: So to begin, I'm wondering if you could share with our listeners

00:05:08.190 --> 00:05:11.450 Linda Marsanico: what in your past brings you

00:05:11.480 --> 00:05:14.159 Linda Marsanico: on your journey to where you are now.

00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:19.552 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Wow. So that's a wonderful question. Because

00:05:20.140 --> 00:05:24.370 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I would say that pretty much everything. So.

00:05:25.010 --> 00:05:29.849 Dr Gigi Arnaud: as we know at a certain point in life, all those experiences. We've had

00:05:30.060 --> 00:05:33.909 Dr Gigi Arnaud: the ups, the downs, the roller coaster ride of life

00:05:34.120 --> 00:05:40.220 Dr Gigi Arnaud: has brought us to where we are and who we are in. In my particular case really.

00:05:40.730 --> 00:05:49.379 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and particularly in the last few years. You know I'm a baby boomer, you know. Clearly I had. This is not my 1st career my 1st rodeo

00:05:50.095 --> 00:05:56.489 Dr Gigi Arnaud: but I realize that there's a path. There's a thread that runs through my life.

00:05:57.010 --> 00:06:01.199 Dr Gigi Arnaud: One is the fact that I had a lot of.

00:06:01.960 --> 00:06:07.699 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm going to say, internal suffering, anxiety. I have a background of trauma in my family.

00:06:08.630 --> 00:06:16.300 Dr Gigi Arnaud: There was, even though I looked sunny and successful on the outside as a dentist, as a mom and other things.

00:06:16.540 --> 00:06:29.509 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I really was struggling and suffering inside. And you know, I really came to the conclusion that my mindset. The way I was thinking wasn't right for me, and wasn't aligned at all with who I was.

00:06:29.610 --> 00:06:45.060 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and you know how we can sometimes connect to who we are is to go back to our past, to our childhood. What did we really love? What really appealed to us? And for me, I knew I kind of knew what that was, but I ignored it for many reasons, most of my life. So

00:06:46.020 --> 00:06:52.959 Dr Gigi Arnaud: the being a dentist for many decades, although honestly, it wasn't my 1st love.

00:06:53.020 --> 00:06:57.029 Linda Marsanico: It was very. It was good for me, for me it was good, because it used my art.

00:06:57.510 --> 00:07:05.680 Dr Gigi Arnaud: My art, abilities, plus my ability and my liking to work with people I really connecting with people.

00:07:05.860 --> 00:07:18.869 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And I realized, you know, doing that, and then coaching and hypnosis that one of my, let's say missions purposes is, as a I'll call it, a healer. I don't know what else to call it, whether it be a dentist, a hypnotist.

00:07:19.625 --> 00:07:27.329 Dr Gigi Arnaud: A coach. And then another part of who I am is the creative part, you know, and the curious part so. But every

00:07:28.790 --> 00:07:33.979 Dr Gigi Arnaud: you know I've had a lot of challenges, but every challenge that I've had has really

00:07:34.010 --> 00:07:37.779 Dr Gigi Arnaud: brought me back. I'm going to say to who I was.

00:07:37.990 --> 00:07:41.589 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I had to clear the way, clear the path clear those

00:07:41.990 --> 00:07:48.189 Dr Gigi Arnaud: really unhelpful, really negative habits of thinking, and

00:07:48.610 --> 00:07:56.189 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and start to connect with my body, which is the representation of the subconscious mind connect that

00:07:56.260 --> 00:08:00.880 Dr Gigi Arnaud: the subconscious to my conscious mind to understand

00:08:00.910 --> 00:08:05.989 Dr Gigi Arnaud: how I'm thinking how I'm behaving, and I'm still doing that. It's a journey forever. But

00:08:06.040 --> 00:08:13.129 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I think everything you go through creates the unique. I wasn't kidding when I said unique, fabulous person. Each of us is.

00:08:13.130 --> 00:08:13.620 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:08:13.620 --> 00:08:21.480 Dr Gigi Arnaud: We're here for reasons we have unique abilities, unique gifts, unique talents. What we have to do is recall them, rediscover them.

00:08:21.950 --> 00:08:26.779 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Bring them to the world in some way. At the same time as we're serving, I think others.

00:08:27.130 --> 00:08:37.509 Linda Marsanico: Yes, I think it's so important for us to get rid of the distractions so that we can focus on this internal journey, healing internally as well as externally.

00:08:37.510 --> 00:08:55.889 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Right, and we know that's not so easy, right, Linda. So I was a single mother for a long time. So you know, I ran my dental practice I was commuting. I was running home to my son to spend time with him. I didn't have that much time to do my visual arts. Let's say my painting, my whatever my collage.

00:08:56.310 --> 00:09:05.889 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I did somehow manage to learn. I don't know. I went to learn hypnotherapy and coaching. Somehow I managed to do that. I must have had a lot of energy. Yeah.

00:09:05.890 --> 00:09:06.730 Linda Marsanico: Yes, yes.

00:09:06.730 --> 00:09:08.829 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But I did that, and

00:09:08.900 --> 00:09:13.860 Dr Gigi Arnaud: it, you know. It also shows you that if you really want to do something you do it.

00:09:14.240 --> 00:09:14.760 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:09:14.760 --> 00:09:28.330 Dr Gigi Arnaud: No matter the what's the word, the limitations. And it's the same thing with your mind. So I, although I've always gone for coaching hypnosis therapy like throughout my whole life. I really believe in it.

00:09:28.860 --> 00:09:39.730 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I really got to focus much more with less distractions in the last few years, as we get older, because there's there's less our children might be older.

00:09:39.730 --> 00:09:40.450 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:09:40.450 --> 00:09:41.520 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So, yeah.

00:09:42.190 --> 00:09:50.509 Linda Marsanico: Now you mentioned that dentistry was not your 1st love. What was your 1st love as a young woman?

00:09:51.520 --> 00:09:54.890 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Okay. So if I go back to the real, me way back.

00:09:55.330 --> 00:10:05.949 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Okay. I was a kid who was always doing cartwheels. I did become a gymnast and a dancer, but I was like the kid who was always doing cartwheel splits. I loved moving my body.

00:10:05.950 --> 00:10:06.489 Linda Marsanico: I don't know.

00:10:06.490 --> 00:10:10.350 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Dancing that was part of who I was. I was also a kid who was

00:10:10.370 --> 00:10:18.059 Dr Gigi Arnaud: incredibly curious, and because I come from I come from French parents and grandparents from all different countries.

00:10:18.170 --> 00:10:20.360 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and we always had people visiting.

00:10:20.400 --> 00:10:28.020 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I always was curious and fascinated about other cultures. Other people traveling since I'm very young.

00:10:28.050 --> 00:10:37.509 Dr Gigi Arnaud: My father said to me once I knew you were going to be a world traveler, and in that time middle class kids didn't really travel, but it was clear. And it it's true.

00:10:37.926 --> 00:10:43.580 Dr Gigi Arnaud: The curiosity of understanding that there are other people, other cultures, other ways of being

00:10:44.060 --> 00:10:55.110 Dr Gigi Arnaud: was fascinating to me, and the dentistry was good in many ways. Okay, it taught me number one to focus, because I can be all over the place. I'm very curious.

00:10:55.260 --> 00:11:03.269 Dr Gigi Arnaud: but that's a good thing it taught me. It taught me to relate to people and their fears. Because let's be honest. A lot of people fear going to the dentist.

00:11:03.570 --> 00:11:13.859 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and it taught me to have other ways of behaving like I learned hypnotherapy. I learned breath, you know. I taught my patients breathing. I put music on. I learned how to joke.

00:11:13.960 --> 00:11:17.469 Dr Gigi Arnaud: you know you you learn behaviors that help people.

00:11:18.210 --> 00:11:23.250 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I always was a kid who drew or did our artistic things. But

00:11:23.670 --> 00:11:26.419 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm going to be honest because I came from a

00:11:27.290 --> 00:11:31.619 Dr Gigi Arnaud: a an immigrant family with not that much money.

00:11:31.640 --> 00:11:35.159 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and also who had suffered a lot of trauma.

00:11:35.210 --> 00:11:38.098 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It was kind of very practical, you know.

00:11:38.890 --> 00:11:43.819 Dr Gigi Arnaud: going into the arts of dancing. To be honest, my mom kind of suppressed that

00:11:44.240 --> 00:11:47.819 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and which was not great for my soul to be honest.

00:11:47.820 --> 00:11:48.360 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:11:49.201 --> 00:11:52.328 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And she apologized later. But but

00:11:53.390 --> 00:12:18.920 Dr Gigi Arnaud: That's the way things were, you know, and it's not that they told me to become a doctor, dentist, or lawyer. No, that was me later on, and that's a funny story. But I was always a creative and a person who wanted to help people. So I continue to do that just in a different way. The coaching and the hypnotherapy I love, because that's to me helping people in a in a bigger way, career and personal. The holistic.

00:12:19.350 --> 00:12:19.950 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:12:19.950 --> 00:12:27.990 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Of a person, and really I do believe that people can get to who they are, and really

00:12:28.270 --> 00:12:32.940 Dr Gigi Arnaud: show their gifts in in a in a humane way, let's say.

00:12:33.110 --> 00:12:33.880 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:12:34.460 --> 00:12:40.280 Linda Marsanico: Now, talking about different cultures, you mentioned to me that your

00:12:40.810 --> 00:12:44.370 Linda Marsanico: parents are hidden children of the holocaust.

00:12:44.370 --> 00:12:45.150 Linda Marsanico: Yes, I hadn't

00:12:45.150 --> 00:12:51.709 Linda Marsanico: ever heard of that, and I think it links to your trauma. Would you share some of that with us?

00:12:51.710 --> 00:13:15.670 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes. Well, thank you for bringing that up, because a lot of people don't know they're both deceased. But they were yeah. What we called Hidden Children of the Holocaust. So when I was young, when we were young, we were told that the survivors were people with the numbers on their arms, the camps, and all that, but my parents were both hiding as little children during the war, and they were separated from their parents. My mother's father was killed at Auschwitz.

00:13:15.670 --> 00:13:32.269 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and a lot. There's a lot of suffering that influenced the rest of their lives, and the rest of my life and my brother's life, too. So yeah, they were hidden in different towns. It's a whole story. And I'm actually writing a book about it and putting it out there in addition to trauma

00:13:33.250 --> 00:13:47.670 Dr Gigi Arnaud: helping people with trauma. But it clearly was a big trauma for them, and then came down to us, and we realized later on that people who were hidden children or Ghetto survivors, or whatever were all, were all survivors.

00:13:47.960 --> 00:13:55.750 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And we the second generation, they call us 2 G, we're actually we're the 1st group that was kind of experimented on.

00:13:55.830 --> 00:13:59.399 Dr Gigi Arnaud: As for trauma, Dr. Rachel Yehuda did her.

00:13:59.400 --> 00:14:02.889 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Oh, with us, with our group 2 G.

00:14:03.110 --> 00:14:13.539 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And you know it's not a group or a club you want to be a part of. Necessarily, because it's we're kind of one of the most traumatized groups of children, but it's great to understand.

00:14:13.730 --> 00:14:19.750 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And so I have a deep understanding of trauma, and how that can change us

00:14:19.820 --> 00:14:22.809 Dr Gigi Arnaud: in mind, body, and spirit, and so.

00:14:22.810 --> 00:14:23.320 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:14:23.770 --> 00:14:28.140 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yeah. And thank you for asking, because it's it's good for people to know about all this stuff. Yeah.

00:14:28.360 --> 00:14:39.840 Linda Marsanico: Yes, now it is time for us to take a break in a few seconds, I think, when we come back, would you tell us how you've coped with the trauma.

00:14:40.880 --> 00:14:42.995 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Hmm, okay. Sure.

00:14:44.110 --> 00:14:46.809 Linda Marsanico: So we're going to take a break now.

00:14:47.240 --> 00:14:48.190 Linda Marsanico: We'll be back.

00:16:31.190 --> 00:16:37.989 Linda Marsanico: Hi! Everyone! Welcome back to the A. Train to Sedona with my guest, Dr. Gigi Arnault

00:16:38.690 --> 00:16:41.899 Linda Marsanico: Gigi. We had talked about your

00:16:41.960 --> 00:16:48.259 Linda Marsanico: speaking to the issue of how you dealt with your trauma associated with the holocaust.

00:16:49.280 --> 00:16:55.289 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Okay, I'm going to be very straightforward, because I think that helps people more, and they will relate.

00:16:55.680 --> 00:16:57.370 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I honestly

00:16:57.980 --> 00:17:08.960 Dr Gigi Arnaud: did not, I'm going to say, deal with it well, for many years, really, what I did is what most people do. I tried to deny it. I tried to suppress it. I tried to push it down

00:17:09.030 --> 00:17:12.859 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and ignore it and go on with life, but it wasn't working.

00:17:12.940 --> 00:17:17.529 Dr Gigi Arnaud: as I said to you, I looked successful and sunny on the outside, but I was miserable inside. I was

00:17:17.690 --> 00:17:20.880 Dr Gigi Arnaud: constantly anxious. I was.

00:17:21.550 --> 00:17:33.769 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm gonna say, low, level depression. I was very high functioning, but low, level depression. I really didn't want to deal what was with what was inside. I was ignoring my what was in my body. The subconscious.

00:17:33.770 --> 00:17:34.100 Linda Marsanico: Just.

00:17:34.250 --> 00:17:40.930 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Even with therapy, with coaching, with all that I was doing, all that I just kind of knew how to

00:17:41.250 --> 00:17:47.950 Dr Gigi Arnaud: steer away from it until it became unbearable. The feeling of emptiness, of aloneness, of

00:17:48.000 --> 00:18:10.789 Dr Gigi Arnaud: what's wrong with me, and because I come from a family of survivors, and there was mental illness in the family due to the war, and all that that I grew up with. I was afraid that I there was something wrong with me, so I was like, What's wrong with me? Am I crazy? And I'm saying this because I know a lot of people feel this on the outside. People said to me. Oh, you look so confident you're always smiling. Yeah, I was really good.

00:18:11.270 --> 00:18:41.049 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I putting on good masks. I'm very good at that. But inside I knew I had to do something. So finally I said, Okay, that's it. It's time to deal to go in. And so I did. I really kept on with coaching kept on with therapy, really tried to get down into the pain that was really there, which is really very difficult to deal with. Yes, you're dealing when you're dealing with something like the holocaust or another kind of genocide. Real genocide. By the way. You you're

00:18:41.770 --> 00:18:51.700 Dr Gigi Arnaud: it. It's it's it's unfathomable, unfathomable, you know the kind of suffering and pain, and you don't want to.

00:18:52.700 --> 00:18:57.890 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You don't want to burden your parents more because you know the heart or some of it. You knew.

00:18:57.890 --> 00:18:58.300 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:18:58.300 --> 00:19:06.329 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And you didn't want to burden them. On the other hand, you think there's something wrong with you, and what's with me? So it was very difficult. And I finally, and

00:19:06.410 --> 00:19:35.459 Dr Gigi Arnaud: my mom died kind of young. So I finally, you know, really got to work on dealing with it, and my anger toward them. And my, you know the a lot of the stuff that wasn't normal. You know that you think when you're growing up, it's like everybody's like this. I knew they weren't. Besides that, my parents were French. We're the only ones, you know. I was raised in Long Island neighborhood. The only ones who spoke French. Everybody else was from Brooklyn and the Bronx, basically. Besides that, we had a lot of languages in our family, and I knew there was something

00:19:35.460 --> 00:19:36.750 Dr Gigi Arnaud: really

00:19:38.720 --> 00:19:50.639 Dr Gigi Arnaud: dreadful that happened to our family. It was different. It was a chaotic house, a lot of screaming, a lot of anger, sadness, and really I don't know how to. It's hard to express.

00:19:52.460 --> 00:19:54.820 Linda Marsanico: It was more trauma, more more trauma.

00:19:54.820 --> 00:19:58.230 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Trauma, you know, like high tension level.

00:19:58.230 --> 00:19:58.740 Linda Marsanico: Yeah.

00:19:58.740 --> 00:20:10.580 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And I it took me years. I'm still to this day. I always have to be regulating my nervous system. I definitely had a dysregulated nervous system probably still do for most of my life.

00:20:11.186 --> 00:20:14.339 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I think a lot of the trauma. I think over time.

00:20:14.390 --> 00:20:26.860 Dr Gigi Arnaud: The being in a survival state and anxiety causes problems in your body. I happen to have very severe osteoarthritis. So I think that I have a feeling that's related, you know.

00:20:27.320 --> 00:20:52.590 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and I'm saying that because I want others to learn that it's not an easy journey. It's amazing journey to go on a healing journey, but it's it's a challenging one. It's a real up and down you have to be ready for it, and I'm there for you. Linda's there for you. Other people are there for you, but go on it, because without it you can't. It's very difficult for people who've had trauma like I have to get back to the authentic us.

00:20:52.710 --> 00:21:00.570 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It took me decades, I can't tell you, even though my body may not be as strong as it was.

00:21:01.180 --> 00:21:17.600 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I feel so much better emotionally, mentally. I'm finally who I am. I'm doing what I'm meant to do. I'm living the life that I'm meant to like, live, even though it's different than other people's. I always felt I had to fit in, so there's a lot there. But

00:21:17.790 --> 00:21:21.769 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I would encourage people as hard as it is. Get partners.

00:21:21.910 --> 00:21:30.750 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Trusted partners can go with you on this journey and get on it, because there's nothing better, really, really, nothing better than

00:21:30.870 --> 00:21:36.790 Dr Gigi Arnaud: becoming the authentic you, and sharing who you are with the world. It's just

00:21:37.090 --> 00:21:42.969 Dr Gigi Arnaud: peace and and joy, and whatever and that has to do with the present moment, too, that you were talking about.

00:21:42.970 --> 00:21:49.200 Linda Marsanico: Absolutely, and it's quite a prize after I think it's important to keep one's eye on the prize.

00:21:49.200 --> 00:21:55.809 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Well, and but it's never yes, but I wanna I wanna clarify that because people think, Oh, you hit the prize and you're done.

00:21:55.810 --> 00:21:56.180 Linda Marsanico: Oh!

00:21:56.180 --> 00:22:07.299 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It's not just one like ring on the carousel that you pulled. No, you're hitting prizes all along, and you have to. This is what I tell all my clients. The 1st exercise I teach them is patting yourself on the back.

00:22:07.930 --> 00:22:24.939 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Why you pat yourself on the back, because our negativity bias in our brain. This is an antidote. You're telling yourself, good girl. Good boy, you did it. You did this next step. You did this better thought. This time you react, responded differently this time. Good for you. It also allows you to smile.

00:22:25.100 --> 00:22:32.280 Dr Gigi Arnaud: which what it it activates. Your vagus nerve, which is part of the parasympathetic nervous system.

00:22:32.280 --> 00:22:33.100 Linda Marsanico: Beautiful.

00:22:33.100 --> 00:22:44.580 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Rest and digest comes your body, which then comes your mind. It's all related, but it takes. There's not one prize. The prize is. You become yourself.

00:22:44.580 --> 00:22:45.160 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:22:45.160 --> 00:22:48.630 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You feel peace. You don't have that constant anxiety.

00:22:48.630 --> 00:22:49.100 Linda Marsanico: Hmm! No.

00:22:49.100 --> 00:22:52.859 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Have that constant survival thing.

00:22:52.880 --> 00:23:00.420 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It's it's there's nothing better. And and and then to to be and do who you really are?

00:23:01.530 --> 00:23:02.580 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It's wonderful.

00:23:03.210 --> 00:23:05.189 Linda Marsanico: Really, this is a lifelong journey.

00:23:05.190 --> 00:23:06.820 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Lifelong till the end.

00:23:07.030 --> 00:23:21.330 Linda Marsanico: And I wrote my book because my life journey took me such a long time and is taking me again and again. Another challenge. Universe presents another challenge. It's nuanced. It's really big. And I rise to the occasion. Yet.

00:23:21.330 --> 00:23:33.450 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Linda, can I just say something? I love that you said that because I think a lot of people and younger people who might be watching is a lot of my clients are younger, and that God bless them because it's great. They're starting younger than than I was.

00:23:33.450 --> 00:23:34.090 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:23:34.260 --> 00:23:35.000 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But

00:23:35.420 --> 00:23:51.680 Dr Gigi Arnaud: it's a lifelong thing, and we're it's a constant, it's a. It's a wonderful journey. And to keep learning and to keep growing. And so thank you for saying that the both of us it took us a lot. It takes everybody a long time if they get there, and we're lucky if we get there.

00:23:52.650 --> 00:23:58.829 Linda Marsanico: It's quite the journey. It's it's a very worthy.

00:23:59.660 --> 00:24:01.190 Linda Marsanico: Moment of now.

00:24:02.690 --> 00:24:06.969 Linda Marsanico: So I wanted to ask you. I think that your

00:24:07.200 --> 00:24:10.140 Linda Marsanico: own trauma helps you work with your clients.

00:24:10.550 --> 00:24:15.079 Linda Marsanico: So how? Typically, if there is such a thing, would you work with a client.

00:24:15.890 --> 00:24:19.179 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yeah, there's no such thing, because each person is unique and different.

00:24:19.320 --> 00:24:22.639 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But 1st thing is to really listen

00:24:23.200 --> 00:24:30.679 Dr Gigi Arnaud: to the person. So as a coach. I think you know you're asking. You're not telling people what to do. You're asking them about themselves.

00:24:30.760 --> 00:24:43.150 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I go into their history a bit mental, emotional physical, all that. And I'm listening to them and questioning them. And what I'm really doing. And you know, this is listening to what they're saying in a deeper way.

00:24:43.200 --> 00:24:47.469 Dr Gigi Arnaud: In other words, they might come to me for a career thing.

00:24:47.800 --> 00:24:51.959 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But really, what they're coming for is that

00:24:52.500 --> 00:24:56.250 Dr Gigi Arnaud: it could be underneath. They need permission to become who they are.

00:24:57.820 --> 00:25:00.100 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And I can give them that in certain ways

00:25:00.320 --> 00:25:23.649 Dr Gigi Arnaud: my experience. It's not only my experience because I have studied, I'm a good student, so I learn things properly. You know, I studied coaching. I studied hypnotherapy. I'm constantly learning about neuroscience, psychology, trauma work. I don't take it lightly. I'm very aware of my boundaries as I was as a dentist. Because it's health care. It's, you know, the human mind and body. It's quite important.

00:25:23.660 --> 00:25:29.610 Dr Gigi Arnaud: but I think it with my clients. What I'm creating is a safe space

00:25:29.900 --> 00:25:36.419 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and an honest space. I'm very straightforward. They can ask me or say anything they want. They can behave.

00:25:36.450 --> 00:25:43.720 Dr Gigi Arnaud: How they want. We can have fun together. We can laugh together, we can cry together, and they can

00:25:43.910 --> 00:26:11.805 Dr Gigi Arnaud: let me know what's been going on. I share with them, and then they slowly but surely start becoming aware with questioning. I give a lot of exercises, a lot of tools and tips, and at the end. Usually I work with people I start with 3 months. By the end of that time they usually have, like almost a notebook, a book of a lot of exercises to use in their everyday lives that they have to continue. By the way, Linda, to use forever.

00:26:12.570 --> 00:26:33.739 Dr Gigi Arnaud: In other words, you know that repetition. Once you get your subconscious thoughts and awareness up to your conscious mind, then it's a matter of changing the pathways right? The neural pathways. How do we do that by constant repetition, repetition, and practice. So they have to do that. And I'm also they're accountable to me. I have them do things each week.

00:26:33.790 --> 00:26:38.440 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and a lot of them is repeating things, and they'll come back to me, and they have to do it.

00:26:38.500 --> 00:26:50.510 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and if they have questions they can ask. But they, these are things they're going to do. They have to understand. They're going to do continuously. It's not 3 months you're done. You're cured. You're this. No.

00:26:50.920 --> 00:26:55.130 Dr Gigi Arnaud: it's forever, but it gives them the confidence.

00:26:55.450 --> 00:26:58.379 Dr Gigi Arnaud: the trust. There's a lot there.

00:26:58.610 --> 00:27:01.419 Linda Marsanico: The safe space is essential as.

00:27:01.420 --> 00:27:02.200 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Essential.

00:27:02.200 --> 00:27:13.039 Linda Marsanico: The relationship between the 2, the coach and the client needs to be a good match. The safe space is something that allows people

00:27:13.600 --> 00:27:16.920 Linda Marsanico: to know they're going to get to that that inner self.

00:27:17.040 --> 00:27:20.049 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And you know what absolutely. And you know what I

00:27:20.490 --> 00:27:28.329 Dr Gigi Arnaud: you're right there. There is a match, you know. I don't know about you, but I know pretty quickly if someone's going to be a match or not.

00:27:29.020 --> 00:27:29.850 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And

00:27:30.710 --> 00:27:44.029 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and I did the same. At the end of my dental career I started realizing who, you know, was going to be a patient I could work with and who wasn't. And you start developing that over time. But that's very important. There has to be a trust. And

00:27:44.180 --> 00:27:47.359 Dr Gigi Arnaud: you know it's interesting. I noticed that I attract

00:27:48.230 --> 00:28:11.610 Dr Gigi Arnaud: people of all ages, you know, mostly in my domain twenties, thirties, forties, mostly women, and often they're interesting immigrants or children of immigrants or foreigners. Now, it's interesting, because my dental practice was the same way. I had a lot of French. Okay, I do speak other languages, and my name is French. But it's an interesting thing that that's what I attract, because that's what I really understand.

00:28:12.570 --> 00:28:15.689 Linda Marsanico: Well, somehow your energy is doing the work for you.

00:28:16.130 --> 00:28:17.223 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Somewhat yes.

00:28:17.770 --> 00:28:19.790 Linda Marsanico: And your website is lovely.

00:28:19.850 --> 00:28:21.070 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Thank you for that.

00:28:21.400 --> 00:28:24.350 Linda Marsanico: So I'm wondering, when do you use hypnotherapy.

00:28:24.930 --> 00:28:32.709 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Good question. I used to do it, you know. As I said, I learned this like 20 something years ago, and I learned hypnothermia from my dental patients.

00:28:32.850 --> 00:28:41.999 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Originally there was so much phobia, you know, with dentistry, you know that, and I did it after work. I used to do it for all different things, smoking.

00:28:42.180 --> 00:29:02.159 Dr Gigi Arnaud: drink, all kinds of habits, losing weight. But I do that with coaching, anxiety, reduction, all kinds of stuff. Now I do it mostly in conjunction with the coaching. So it's part of a package. So, for example, if I'm working with a person, and they have in their lives had a lot of anxiety like I did

00:29:02.190 --> 00:29:08.670 Dr Gigi Arnaud: then. I might do one or 2 sessions with them, with their if they want about anxiety, reduction.

00:29:08.670 --> 00:29:09.100 Linda Marsanico: Because right?

00:29:09.100 --> 00:29:16.659 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Hypnosis is. It's really making positive suggestions into your subconscious mind. So it's a it's a kind of kickstart

00:29:16.720 --> 00:29:22.100 Dr Gigi Arnaud: to get something moving into your subconscious, which we, as we know, can be very

00:29:22.340 --> 00:29:24.990 Dr Gigi Arnaud: like for me, was very difficult to get in there.

00:29:24.990 --> 00:29:25.360 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:29:25.360 --> 00:29:45.320 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It's kind of a kickstart. It can be very helpful in the middle of sessions, but I do do it separately, like someone I had a coaching client, she said to me, Gigi, can we do a month after of anxiety, reduction? So we did. 4 sessions of that, or sleep, or I wrote a little book about Sleep on Kindle called Sleep Glorious Sleep, years ago for my dental patients.

00:29:45.410 --> 00:29:50.340 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So people can find that in kindle Amazon. But I?

00:29:51.310 --> 00:29:59.790 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I still do it. I do it sometimes separately, but often as part of a coaching and hypnosis program, which is incredibly helpful.

00:29:59.790 --> 00:30:05.729 Linda Marsanico: I'm sure we do need to take the break, and when we come back I'd like to hear about your sleep book.

00:30:05.920 --> 00:30:06.680 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Sure.

00:30:06.680 --> 00:30:10.350 Linda Marsanico: So let's take a break, and we'll be back shortly.

00:30:19.700 --> 00:30:21.250 Linda Marsanico: We're taking a break.

00:30:23.130 --> 00:30:23.890 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Fabulous.

00:30:25.150 --> 00:30:26.820 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Everything. Okay, so far.

00:30:27.040 --> 00:30:28.280 Linda Marsanico: I think so.

00:30:29.740 --> 00:30:31.510 Dr Gigi Arnaud: A program crashed one. Sec.

00:30:31.960 --> 00:30:38.819 Linda Marsanico: Okay? Well, I hope our listeners are on the journey. We're all prisoners of technology.

00:30:38.820 --> 00:30:40.050 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes, we are.

00:30:41.476 --> 00:30:42.493 Linda Marsanico: Our

00:30:45.930 --> 00:30:46.610 Dr Gigi Arnaud: There we are!

00:30:46.610 --> 00:30:55.040 Linda Marsanico: Is the recording on. I don't know whether we're on or off, but this has been very good, Gigi, and I'm very interested to hear about your book.

00:30:55.890 --> 00:30:57.710 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Thank you. It was such a long time ago. I have to look.

00:32:40.610 --> 00:32:47.240 Linda Marsanico: I've just unmuted myself. And Gigi. I'm going to unmute you. I hope that we're both unmuted

00:32:47.390 --> 00:32:53.890 Linda Marsanico: welcome back to the A. Train to Sedona with my guest, Dr. Gigi, Arnault.

00:32:54.120 --> 00:32:58.359 Linda Marsanico: and Gigi. I'd love to hear about the sleep book you wrote.

00:32:59.090 --> 00:33:09.120 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Okay, this was written, I don't even know. 15 years ago. Maybe I just looked it up. And it's it's called Sleep glorious sleep.

00:33:09.510 --> 00:33:20.460 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and it's really tips and tools for sleep. I was noticing then that both my dental patients and my coaching clients were having trouble with sleep.

00:33:20.500 --> 00:33:24.880 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and as I got older, same here. So

00:33:24.890 --> 00:33:30.249 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I I decided to bring together the tips and tools the things I knew

00:33:32.420 --> 00:33:53.409 Dr Gigi Arnaud: just kind of brought them together in a book called Sleep Glorious Sleep. It gives you tips, tools literally what you can do to sleep better. It's on kindle Amazon. Put it on years ago. I think it's only like 299, it's and it's, you know, on Kindle also. So it's very easy to read. It's good to have by your side. There are things, you know, people.

00:33:53.950 --> 00:34:10.530 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Still today, it's funny because what we what I wrote I don't remember how many years ago, probably 15, it still applies today, even though you know the phone. But the phones and the devices have got even more. Obviously, it's become, you know. Then I said, you know, shut off your blues your screens.

00:34:11.229 --> 00:34:19.210 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But today people are even more addicted, all of us pretty much. And so it really becomes.

00:34:19.429 --> 00:34:30.330 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Sleep even becomes more important because I hear a lot of young people saying to me, Oh, my gosh! 1st thing I do in the morning is, look at my phone. Last thing I do is.

00:34:30.489 --> 00:34:44.900 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and I think, wow! We're not, and I'm as addicted as anybody else. But I don't do that like I do my morning routine. 1st I get up first, st and I do some other stuff before I start getting on my phone.

00:34:46.010 --> 00:35:03.840 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But there are so many things that you're saying are distracting us now. It's so hard for us to just let go and relax and to go into other brainwave States. That's by the way, what we do with hypnosis or hypnotherapy. We're not sleeping or unconscious. We're just in a different brainwave state, which is nice to be in.

00:35:03.840 --> 00:35:05.400 Linda Marsanico: Yes, so relaxing.

00:35:05.400 --> 00:35:12.000 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It's a relaxing state that we're in. By the way, it's the same state in trance as the state you are. In

00:35:12.120 --> 00:35:20.619 Dr Gigi Arnaud: the second, you wake up in the morning, and the second you fall asleep at night. So it's very important to let go of these distractions and sleep well.

00:35:21.240 --> 00:35:31.809 Dr Gigi Arnaud: really important, and sleep can tell us a lot. As you probably know. I write down often my dreams, and there's a good way to understand, perhaps, what's going on inside.

00:35:31.810 --> 00:35:38.700 Linda Marsanico: Yes, dreams are gifts, and I wonder if you would put the link for your book in the chat.

00:35:39.720 --> 00:35:40.110 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Bye-bye.

00:35:40.110 --> 00:35:42.819 Linda Marsanico: You can do it. During the next commercial break.

00:35:42.820 --> 00:35:47.950 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And if I don't I'll give you. Let me just give you the name of the book now. So.

00:35:47.950 --> 00:35:48.660 Linda Marsanico: Out for us.

00:35:48.660 --> 00:35:56.860 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Because I'm not a tech genius by far. Sleep. It's like the, you know. Remember Oliver's food, glorious food.

00:35:57.230 --> 00:35:59.520 Linda Marsanico: The phrase is a beautiful one. Sleep.

00:35:59.520 --> 00:36:08.310 Dr Gigi Arnaud: The movie. I must have heard it when I was a kid. You know. Food, glorious food. So I just. And for me sleep is glory. The older you get, the more you love sleep.

00:36:08.590 --> 00:36:12.789 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm writing this down in the, and then I'll try to get that you later. Sleep, glory, sleep! I.

00:36:12.790 --> 00:36:14.281 Linda Marsanico: Okay, that should be enough.

00:36:14.580 --> 00:36:15.649 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Until Amazon. Yeah.

00:36:15.730 --> 00:36:16.939 Linda Marsanico: Yeah, by, by.

00:36:16.940 --> 00:36:23.930 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But it's a it's easy to read. It's good to have by your night table by your side, and there are other things I would add now, so you could.

00:36:23.930 --> 00:36:25.540 Linda Marsanico: Like, what? What would you add now.

00:36:25.540 --> 00:36:29.219 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I would add now more with the to stay, or, you know, to

00:36:29.300 --> 00:36:36.459 Dr Gigi Arnaud: do your morning routine. I teach people a particular morning routine, using mind, body, spirit, do that first.st

00:36:36.570 --> 00:36:46.620 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You don't make the 1st thing you do getting onto a device or getting off a device. You have to let your mind rest. You have to let your body rest, I would say, put your device. I know this is hard.

00:36:46.870 --> 00:36:48.849 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I know it wakes a lot of people up.

00:36:48.870 --> 00:37:07.200 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But if you can put your device in another room, if you can give yourself time before bed, if you can, doing any kind of relaxing an evening routine, or meditation, or mindfulness, or whatever, before you go to sleep instead of devices

00:37:07.270 --> 00:37:15.310 Dr Gigi Arnaud: in your bedroom, I would say I always, even in the book. I think I wrote this, there are 2 things you do in your bedroom, basically right

00:37:15.320 --> 00:37:19.460 Dr Gigi Arnaud: sleep and sex. So basically

00:37:19.670 --> 00:37:28.869 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I, if you're doing other things, including devices. I would stay out of your bedroom because it keeps it away from being a peaceful sanctuary.

00:37:28.870 --> 00:37:30.360 Linda Marsanico: Yes, it does, and I think.

00:37:30.360 --> 00:37:36.049 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Energy, energy. It's all about energy, as you know, and I know we took. You know.

00:37:36.230 --> 00:37:49.339 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Linda, and I am sure we have a lot of belief in the quantum field that we are. We are basically physics shows us that we are basically all energy. And we are interconnected through energy. So there, and there's energy coming out of our devices. By the way.

00:37:49.340 --> 00:37:50.480 Linda Marsanico: Well, that's the thing that.

00:37:50.480 --> 00:37:50.950 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Site.

00:37:50.950 --> 00:37:53.810 Linda Marsanico: Very bad for us. It's very noxious.

00:37:53.810 --> 00:37:59.700 Dr Gigi Arnaud: We think, yeah, I think yes, and especially if it's used too much. So we have to become aware of that.

00:37:59.700 --> 00:38:00.359 Linda Marsanico: I just.

00:38:00.360 --> 00:38:01.960 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And and just, yeah.

00:38:02.040 --> 00:38:17.009 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I you know, I feel old fashioned saying this, and I feel like I'm 1 of those older people saying this, but we were lucky in a way we grew up. You know. None of this running around creating shows, making up ideas. You know what our creativity

00:38:17.180 --> 00:38:20.519 Dr Gigi Arnaud: can take a hit if we're constantly on devices.

00:38:20.520 --> 00:38:23.380 Linda Marsanico: I know I'm doing a workshop on awakening your creativity.

00:38:23.380 --> 00:38:24.440 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Absolutely.

00:38:24.440 --> 00:38:26.350 Linda Marsanico: It's actually awakened.

00:38:26.350 --> 00:38:34.449 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It must be awakened now, because and I do that a lot with my clients. I work a lot with creativity because, and creativity, by the way, is not only in the arts.

00:38:35.030 --> 00:38:37.610 Linda Marsanico: Right, because everything we do it can be.

00:38:37.610 --> 00:38:44.580 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Everything it can be in business, and the way you go about running your family in the way you go about running your business.

00:38:45.620 --> 00:38:47.830 Linda Marsanico: Yes. Creativity, creativity.

00:38:47.830 --> 00:38:48.290 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yep.

00:38:48.290 --> 00:38:52.409 Linda Marsanico: So move on. I'm wondering if you have a philosophy

00:38:52.650 --> 00:38:58.379 Linda Marsanico: which has carried you through your life personally and professionally.

00:39:00.400 --> 00:39:08.829 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Wow, that's an interesting question. Because I I can't say I have developed a particular philosophy. But I'm going to say

00:39:10.640 --> 00:39:16.619 Dr Gigi Arnaud: what what comes up is number one, and I know this sounds again old fashioned, but the Golden Rule

00:39:17.580 --> 00:39:21.389 Dr Gigi Arnaud: treat others as you would have them treat you.

00:39:21.540 --> 00:39:24.460 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and I think this is important, because I think

00:39:25.020 --> 00:39:29.560 Dr Gigi Arnaud: we may be losing some of our very important human connection.

00:39:29.580 --> 00:39:35.690 Dr Gigi Arnaud: the human to human kindness. I think it's very important to be aware of other people

00:39:36.103 --> 00:39:41.390 Dr Gigi Arnaud: to treat them as you would like to be treated, I would say, that's my major philosophy. Treat

00:39:41.530 --> 00:39:48.579 Dr Gigi Arnaud: others the way you would like to be treated. Be kind, be generous in a even giving someone a smile.

00:39:48.770 --> 00:40:05.491 Dr Gigi Arnaud: giving someone a seat. You never know how these little gestures can change a person's day, even their life you just never know. So I would say, that's 1 thing, and I also believe I don't like the idea of bigotry and

00:40:06.430 --> 00:40:12.789 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and I think there's a lot of that now, and it's upsetting me a lot and division again. It's going back to the Golden Rule.

00:40:12.880 --> 00:40:16.420 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and I would say most importantly, be kind.

00:40:17.070 --> 00:40:18.930 Linda Marsanico: And have empathy.

00:40:19.090 --> 00:40:22.330 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Because you never know what others are going through.

00:40:22.780 --> 00:40:28.080 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You never know, and you can be

00:40:29.040 --> 00:40:31.120 Dr Gigi Arnaud: so much of service to others

00:40:31.410 --> 00:40:46.179 Dr Gigi Arnaud: by just being kind, I think for me, my philosophy is, I know this sounds funny. It's just to keep going, because in my world and challenges, you know, I had with my family, and then I had some physical stuff. I had a lot of replacements of my joints.

00:40:46.350 --> 00:41:06.460 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and somehow I just keep going, and I keep going like the you know, the rabbit, the ever ready, you know. So I think part of it is to keep going, because I always feel that there's something more. There's something better. There's something. It's a curiosity. I think it's curiosity that keeps me going, actually. And that comes together with creativity. By the way.

00:41:06.460 --> 00:41:06.910 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:41:06.910 --> 00:41:14.509 Dr Gigi Arnaud: When you're curious, you're creative. If you can keep being curious about life. When people say to me, like, even during Covid, I'm bored. I'm like what

00:41:14.580 --> 00:41:18.329 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I could live to a hundred, you know 40, and never be bored.

00:41:18.360 --> 00:41:22.550 Dr Gigi Arnaud: There's so much to learn, so much to be curious, so much to discover.

00:41:22.650 --> 00:41:32.550 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So I would say, just keep moving. Be curious, open yourself up, be kind, be empathic, and

00:41:33.160 --> 00:41:37.720 Dr Gigi Arnaud: help others along the journey. I think that's part of it, too.

00:41:37.730 --> 00:41:40.100 Dr Gigi Arnaud: We're we're humans. We need connection.

00:41:40.100 --> 00:41:41.390 Linda Marsanico: Do. Yes.

00:41:41.390 --> 00:41:45.427 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And it's it. Yeah, I don't. Yeah, that's basically it.

00:41:45.910 --> 00:41:52.879 Linda Marsanico: On the point of curiosity, Albert Einstein said, you know I don't possess any special gifts. I'm just curious.

00:41:53.370 --> 00:41:57.154 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes. Oh, yeah, yeah. He was curious. Good. IQ, but also curious.

00:41:57.470 --> 00:41:57.840 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:41:57.840 --> 00:42:02.689 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But yes, no, but he's right, and and I think that's you know, and also

00:42:04.220 --> 00:42:13.670 Dr Gigi Arnaud: to live. I think, Liz Gilbert, said this the author to live a creative life. The most important thing is curiosity, and not fear.

00:42:14.611 --> 00:42:22.330 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Because living a creative life, and not just in the arts and other things can be scary because it's different than most other people.

00:42:22.380 --> 00:42:27.569 Dr Gigi Arnaud: It's different than the typical right way of life. But

00:42:28.030 --> 00:42:31.300 Dr Gigi Arnaud: being creative being is being a curious being.

00:42:31.720 --> 00:42:35.710 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And I think so. Being creative is a very important part of us as humans.

00:42:35.710 --> 00:42:37.359 Linda Marsanico: Was very positive, and

00:42:37.430 --> 00:42:43.009 Linda Marsanico: it's choosing love over fear. If I'm curious, if I'm moving forward, I have a zest for life.

00:42:43.010 --> 00:42:43.500 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Right.

00:42:43.500 --> 00:42:51.150 Linda Marsanico: And love is such a powerful vibration. You talk about being kind, smiling, these are bursts of love.

00:42:51.180 --> 00:42:58.139 Linda Marsanico: Somebody looks at me walking down the street and smiles. I've written about it in my blogs. How it's been

00:42:58.180 --> 00:42:59.250 Linda Marsanico: uplifting.

00:42:59.250 --> 00:43:02.110 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes, and sometimes life changing.

00:43:02.110 --> 00:43:03.910 Linda Marsanico: Well, it has that ripple effect.

00:43:03.910 --> 00:43:04.510 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes.

00:43:04.510 --> 00:43:11.000 Linda Marsanico: I can smile at someone, they might smile at someone else, and so it goes and distribute.

00:43:11.000 --> 00:43:15.959 Dr Gigi Arnaud: To be honest, I'm not always perfect with all this, but this is always my intention.

00:43:16.420 --> 00:43:21.267 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So this is, you know, I wanna get out there that people we're not all perfect.

00:43:21.570 --> 00:43:23.325 Linda Marsanico: No make mistakes.

00:43:23.910 --> 00:43:30.720 Dr Gigi Arnaud: A lot of mistakes, but this is what we but I let's say, look for, strive for.

00:43:31.240 --> 00:43:41.319 Linda Marsanico: Yes, I too, and in the a train to Sedona memoir I write about my failures in not being compassionate, and my joys in being compassionate.

00:43:41.320 --> 00:43:42.110 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Hmm.

00:43:42.110 --> 00:43:48.309 Linda Marsanico: It's a challenge. It's as we said before, a lifelong journey. Yeah. Now.

00:43:49.660 --> 00:43:58.299 Linda Marsanico: I wonder we have just a few minutes before we break, but we could start to talk about how you maintain your health.

00:43:59.510 --> 00:44:22.969 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Okay, so that's very important. And I'm going to be honest. Also, as we get older, it takes more maintenance, time and energy. And also with the I've had the joint replacements that takes even more. So physically, I'm going to talk first.st Physically, so physically I have to move. I was an athlete, and when you do have arthritis you do have to move more. So I do, peloton.

00:44:23.130 --> 00:44:37.080 Dr Gigi Arnaud: probably not as much as I should, but I do it. I do, Pilates every day, and it's for well, I have to. It's really for stretching for core. I have to do that to feel good. I walk a lot. I live in New York City. So we we in New York City walk a lot.

00:44:37.080 --> 00:44:37.569 Linda Marsanico: You do.

00:44:37.570 --> 00:44:46.360 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Very important, and there's nature. I live right near Riverside Park, so there's nature, and you can walk. I go on trips. I walk, you have to.

00:44:46.660 --> 00:44:52.900 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I it's constant, and I probably should do more weight, training and stuff like this. But I

00:44:52.960 --> 00:45:04.499 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I know I have to make and write it down in my calendar that I have to do these things. I write it down every day. I put it all in my calendar, because, honestly, I don't want to do it, but I have to do it.

00:45:04.500 --> 00:45:05.260 Linda Marsanico: At the ceiling.

00:45:05.260 --> 00:45:16.309 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Physical, emotional. I'm doing something now. That's a from a book I read by Anna Runkle having to do with complex Ptsd, which is what I.

00:45:16.550 --> 00:45:17.849 Linda Marsanico: Can I ask you to hold that thought.

00:45:17.910 --> 00:45:18.770 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Absolutely.

00:45:18.770 --> 00:45:21.360 Linda Marsanico: I want to get back to that book. And what's the name of the book?

00:45:21.697 --> 00:45:28.100 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Oh, I have to get it right here it is by Anna Runco. It's called re-regulated. Here it is.

00:45:28.100 --> 00:45:35.329 Linda Marsanico: Be regulated. We're gonna come and talk about after the break. This this book that helps you maintain your emotional.

00:45:35.330 --> 00:45:38.950 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Well, I'll no, I'll talk about the book and others. But yeah, we'll talk.

00:45:39.100 --> 00:45:42.350 Linda Marsanico: We have a lot to talk about. We're off to a break now.

00:47:16.150 --> 00:47:24.970 Linda Marsanico: Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the A. Train to Sedona with my guest, Dr. Gigi Arnault, who needs to unmute herself.

00:47:27.260 --> 00:47:27.930 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes, I do.

00:47:28.120 --> 00:47:33.750 Linda Marsanico: Yes, you do. Now. We were talking about emotional health, and you talked about re-regulation.

00:47:33.750 --> 00:47:40.310 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Okay. So I talked about physical health. There's also there's emotional mental health, right? So mental health.

00:47:40.390 --> 00:47:53.980 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm going to put it together with emotional. But I'm going to be honest. Physical health is important for mental and emotional health. For example, I was athletic when I was young, and a gymnast and a dancer, you exercising releases really good hormones.

00:47:53.980 --> 00:47:54.730 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:47:54.730 --> 00:48:12.259 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So that you feel better if you're feeling a little depressed, it helps a lot. Dancing around the room is something I do almost all the time I ask every client, and Linda might have noticed in between the breaks. I get up and I swing my arms, and you could dance around the room, put on music go wild

00:48:12.780 --> 00:48:30.979 Dr Gigi Arnaud: because that releases particular hormones that make you feel better. Okay. I was talking about a book now as far as emotional. Some of the things I do. I do a particular morning routine. If anybody wants to know they can get in touch with me. It includes physical, emotional, spiritual, everything

00:48:31.040 --> 00:48:42.240 Dr Gigi Arnaud: but this book I'm reading now, called Re-regulated by Anna Runkle. I put it in the chat. It has an exercise. She went through a lot of trauma complex. Ptsd. And she writes.

00:48:42.360 --> 00:49:06.789 Dr Gigi Arnaud: this sort of morning page is a little like the artist's way, by Julia Cameron. If anybody's ever done that which was great. I used to do that when I commuted on the train 3, a few minutes of automatic writing where you don't think you just let junk come up from your subconscious. Write it down. Even if I hate this doing. This exercise is what you write. Just get it all out. This is a little different. This is writing fears. I have. I have fear and resentment, because I do have a

00:49:06.790 --> 00:49:18.979 Dr Gigi Arnaud: of these from the past, from my trauma, so I have fear and resentment that that, and then you release it, and then you might do meditation and mindfulness. After this she asks you to do it twice a day right now. I'm doing it once a day.

00:49:18.980 --> 00:49:30.379 Dr Gigi Arnaud: There's also just another great book I mentioned, complex Ptsd by Pete Walker. If anybody's interested, I found this fascinating. I love reading. I'm a reader, so I you know you can learn a lot.

00:49:30.430 --> 00:49:34.310 Dr Gigi Arnaud: but I do something I do to to release my stuff

00:49:34.450 --> 00:49:39.279 Dr Gigi Arnaud: because I it builds up with me. So for me, writing is a great way of release.

00:49:39.280 --> 00:49:39.959 Linda Marsanico: Yes, it is.

00:49:39.960 --> 00:49:48.780 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So I'll write those you know, the fears I have the resentment or just journaling, or you know things I have to work out

00:49:49.359 --> 00:50:00.819 Dr Gigi Arnaud: in my head, and then I'm very sure to try to release them and let them go, because for me, that's an important thing, because I I used to have a lot of Ocd, and you know, regurgitating the same thing.

00:50:01.040 --> 00:50:18.680 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So yeah, there are so many ways to really help yourself. Also, I'm as I said, I know this is. These are funny little quirky things, but I do come. A French family. I love cafe. I love coffee, no matter what you do like. That's the one thing you can never take away from me.

00:50:18.680 --> 00:50:43.099 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So now that I have time in the afternoon, like, I'll have clients in the morning, or things like this in the morning or the early afternoon, and then I let myself every day now, almost later, go to a cafe, and I'll go to a cafe, have a good coffee. I'll either read or write a blog, write blog posts every couple, so I'll write a blog post, or I'll listen to a course I'm listening to now, for example, or

00:50:43.150 --> 00:50:51.910 Dr Gigi Arnaud: all kinds of things. Read a book, or meet with a friend. So that's not only a little treat I give myself, but that's an emotional

00:50:52.120 --> 00:50:58.719 Dr Gigi Arnaud: pat yourself on the back, good girl, you did the work for the day. Now you can go out and have a little treat. Treats don't have to be big.

00:50:59.130 --> 00:50:59.920 Linda Marsanico: Right.

00:50:59.920 --> 00:51:21.369 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I learned this when I for a while I did acting by the way, and while I was doing this I had an acting coach, and she said, and I went on a big audition, and she said to me, Gigi, now she knew what I love to do. Do your thing. So that meant to me. Go to a cafe, sit around, look around and have a nice, you know, time for myself. It can be a little thing, and this is for I do for clients too.

00:51:21.370 --> 00:51:21.970 Linda Marsanico: Yes, yes.

00:51:21.970 --> 00:51:39.780 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Things don't have to be big. You can treat yourself if you don't have enough time. You're running around. You're taking care of kids. You're working if you don't have time, what can you do? Well, I had a client who loved doing crossword puzzles, so she would give herself 10 min a day to sit and do crossword puzzles and relax.

00:51:40.060 --> 00:51:40.740 Linda Marsanico: Lovely.

00:51:40.740 --> 00:51:42.590 Dr Gigi Arnaud: That's all it can take sometimes. So.

00:51:42.590 --> 00:51:43.090 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:51:43.090 --> 00:51:51.990 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And and so I'm physical, emotional, spiritual. Everybody does their own thing for me. It has to do with. I do.

00:51:52.080 --> 00:52:21.540 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I love doing this. I had lived in Israel for a few years, so I like doing Friday night, like I'll do the prayers, even if I don't actually light the candles. I like the prayers. It gets me into another space, the space of peace and letting things come down. And so, however, you do that that and works for you is fine, but I think it's very important to mix all the physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, even environmental. By the way, be in a place that you like to be in.

00:52:21.540 --> 00:52:22.270 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:52:22.270 --> 00:52:30.949 Dr Gigi Arnaud: If you go to a cafe, go to one where you have a nice atmosphere that's important to me, and if you're at home, find a little space.

00:52:31.380 --> 00:52:33.989 Linda Marsanico: Great for you that can be special.

00:52:33.990 --> 00:52:36.809 Linda Marsanico: Our environment does affect us.

00:52:36.810 --> 00:52:37.320 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Energy.

00:52:37.320 --> 00:52:38.970 Linda Marsanico: We know them. Yes.

00:52:38.970 --> 00:52:39.640 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Right.

00:52:39.920 --> 00:52:46.010 Linda Marsanico: Just like clutter. If there's too much clutter, it does have its energy, and it's not conducive to good health.

00:52:46.010 --> 00:52:51.670 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Oh, for some people I happen to be one of those people that likes things here and there, and but for most.

00:52:51.670 --> 00:52:54.250 Linda Marsanico: I'm talking about lot of clutter. Yeah.

00:52:54.250 --> 00:52:54.960 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm 12. Yes.

00:52:54.960 --> 00:52:56.019 Linda Marsanico: Forwarding, clutter.

00:52:56.020 --> 00:52:56.590 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes.

00:52:56.590 --> 00:52:57.290 Linda Marsanico: Yeah,

00:52:58.810 --> 00:53:00.500 Linda Marsanico: So you you meditate.

00:53:01.340 --> 00:53:09.329 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'm going to call it regular meditation. I learned meditation, and all that. I do more my own. I do more with nature. I'm very.

00:53:10.570 --> 00:53:27.599 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I'll go outside and I'll do grounding. I do. I've done this my whole life. I didn't realize it was grounding, but I now realize it is. I look at the clouds, I look at the trees, I look at the flowers. I'm very visual, so I've always enjoyed that, and that grounds me

00:53:27.820 --> 00:53:34.400 Dr Gigi Arnaud: so I'll do that even now. I'll look around in my apartment where my painting is, where my! This is that

00:53:34.910 --> 00:53:37.399 Dr Gigi Arnaud: for me that's meditative.

00:53:37.400 --> 00:53:37.820 Linda Marsanico: It could.

00:53:37.820 --> 00:53:40.490 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Just going out into nature and taking a walk.

00:53:40.930 --> 00:53:45.899 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Be for some people. Listening to beautiful music for some people, sitting still.

00:53:46.430 --> 00:53:55.080 Dr Gigi Arnaud: mindfulness is also an important thing. It's not like meditation, but it's being aware of what you're doing and being in the present moment.

00:53:55.080 --> 00:53:55.630 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:53:55.630 --> 00:54:03.820 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Finding your way to do it. One of my unique ways to do that is to do my art. When I go to my art table over there.

00:54:03.960 --> 00:54:08.030 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I am put in another world.

00:54:08.450 --> 00:54:08.990 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:54:08.990 --> 00:54:24.699 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So that's mindful for me. So everybody has their different way. I don't want anybody to get stuck with one way or another. It's whatever way works for you, but to let yourself have that pause, that silence that stop to hear your real inner voice.

00:54:24.880 --> 00:54:30.629 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Shut up that inner critic, and let that beautiful inner voice you have.

00:54:30.930 --> 00:54:32.509 Dr Gigi Arnaud: and that was given to you.

00:54:32.510 --> 00:54:33.020 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:54:33.020 --> 00:54:38.210 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Let it come through, and let it all let it come out and shine with all of us.

00:54:38.660 --> 00:54:41.210 Linda Marsanico: It brings joy to us and the rest of the world.

00:54:41.210 --> 00:54:42.220 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Exactly.

00:54:43.250 --> 00:54:44.660 Linda Marsanico: How do you relax?

00:54:45.690 --> 00:54:46.670 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Hmm!

00:54:47.170 --> 00:54:50.269 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I well, I think one way is art.

00:54:51.450 --> 00:55:03.560 Dr Gigi Arnaud: One way is to go to a cafe that's for me. This is a relaxing thing. It can be theater going out but relaxing I love. I could also read a I love reading.

00:55:04.240 --> 00:55:13.089 Dr Gigi Arnaud: I I like being by myself, too. I I can just do that. I also have to say I have gotten hooked on some of the Netflix and primes things.

00:55:13.626 --> 00:55:18.620 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And it's a good way for me to just shut my mind off, you know.

00:55:18.890 --> 00:55:20.449 Dr Gigi Arnaud: with things that I like.

00:55:20.940 --> 00:55:25.910 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Yes, I have. Netflix as well and certain shows that I yeah.

00:55:25.910 --> 00:55:34.090 Linda Marsanico: Can't wait to listen to, and it's a time of just focusing on something other than

00:55:34.710 --> 00:55:36.479 Linda Marsanico: what I've been dealing with all day.

00:55:36.480 --> 00:55:38.410 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Exactly, and letting go.

00:55:38.410 --> 00:55:38.820 Linda Marsanico: Yeah.

00:55:38.820 --> 00:55:45.629 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Completely letting go, because some of us, probably you and I, may have trouble with that. You know, we're used to doing so many things.

00:55:45.630 --> 00:55:46.100 Linda Marsanico: And.

00:55:46.100 --> 00:55:52.729 Dr Gigi Arnaud: All at once, and we're from the generation where we had to work and have a career. And we were 1st at it. And

00:55:52.860 --> 00:55:59.560 Dr Gigi Arnaud: so there's a lot. But yeah, yeah, it's important to relax and give yourself breaks. Guys, please.

00:56:01.120 --> 00:56:03.459 Linda Marsanico: Might you show us one of your pieces of art.

00:56:03.650 --> 00:56:07.350 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Oh, my goodness! I have a lot of stuff here, but.

00:56:07.350 --> 00:56:09.239 Linda Marsanico: You can just bring one to the camera.

00:56:09.240 --> 00:56:10.432 Linda Marsanico: Oh, my! Gosh!

00:56:10.930 --> 00:56:14.809 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Oh, my goodness! I have so many, and they're mostly tucked away.

00:56:14.880 --> 00:56:26.659 Dr Gigi Arnaud: But I'll this is a fun, colorful one, so I'll just bring this I did a long time ago. My artist changed, and you could find me at Instagram, Gigerno, art or doctor. But this is a fun, colorful one.

00:56:26.660 --> 00:56:28.639 Linda Marsanico: Oh, lovely colors! Yes.

00:56:28.640 --> 00:56:34.429 Dr Gigi Arnaud: What this is is collage. And from the collage I created kind of a story.

00:56:34.590 --> 00:56:35.300 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And

00:56:35.430 --> 00:56:47.200 Dr Gigi Arnaud: it was a story. When I lived in Israel in a Moshab which is like a farm kind of thing, and it ended up coming into that story. But I didn't realize it when I started. So that's where we talk about creativity.

00:56:47.200 --> 00:56:47.720 Linda Marsanico: Yes.

00:56:47.720 --> 00:56:51.990 Dr Gigi Arnaud: And letting our spirits and minds just go. It's a

00:56:52.150 --> 00:57:02.350 Dr Gigi Arnaud: you know, art, by the way, for anyone, whether you think you're talented in it or not is a great way of just letting go, even if you just go like this and let yourself go. Wild

00:57:02.350 --> 00:57:04.769 Dr Gigi Arnaud: things come up up. It's just amazing.

00:57:04.860 --> 00:57:06.262 Dr Gigi Arnaud: So, thank you.

00:57:07.030 --> 00:57:09.210 Linda Marsanico: Glad that you could show it to us.

00:57:10.290 --> 00:57:15.979 Linda Marsanico: We're getting ready to close for today. I wonder if you have any last

00:57:16.410 --> 00:57:18.570 Linda Marsanico: words to share with our listeners.

00:57:20.430 --> 00:57:25.150 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Just honestly be who you are.

00:57:25.450 --> 00:57:27.840 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You are special, you are unique.

00:57:27.890 --> 00:57:32.969 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You're not alone. You're not crazy. You're not broken.

00:57:33.240 --> 00:57:36.560 Dr Gigi Arnaud: You're just in the process

00:57:36.900 --> 00:58:02.540 Dr Gigi Arnaud: of going on a journey. It could be healing, it could be learning about yourself. It could be growing. We are here to learn and grow. 00:58:17.160 --> 00:58:26.089 Dr Gigi Arnaud: yeah, anything someone wants to ask, and also just to know life is an up and down journey. I know you hear it, but it's really true.

00:58:26.090 --> 00:58:26.780 Linda Marsanico: Yes, it is.

00:58:26.780 --> 00:58:31.040 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Have to remember that the downs go ups and the ups goes downs.

00:58:31.100 --> 00:58:37.569 Dr Gigi Arnaud: The expression this 2 shall pass is really true. Just remember that when things can get challenging.

00:58:38.420 --> 00:58:42.989 Linda Marsanico: Well, thank you so much for being my guest today. Gigi.

00:58:43.290 --> 00:58:44.029 Dr Gigi Arnaud: Pleasure, Linda.
