Sam starts off with quotes from The Universe and Abraham,. The first quote talks about the fact of the importance of realizing that there is absolute perfection in life and that everything is happening as it’s supposed to. Sam says that everyone has moments where they look back on rough times in their life and sees them as helpful moments in their life instead of negative ones. The next quote focuses on the “art of allowing” and taking in all kinds of energies and feelings in your life. This can come when you release resistance and just flow with the direction the universe is taking you. Notice where you want something different and just lean in the direction of that thing. Sam then introduces his guest Camille Conte, who is a radio and podcast host with KNBA in Alaska.
Camille gives some background of how she got into being a more spiritual person. She grew up in the Catholic faith in New Jersey, but she didn’t find a lot of fulfillment. She moved to Alaska and she says that’s where she found her spiritual awakening. Camille knew she wanted to go into radio from a very young age. She had grown up in a musical family and was constantly listening to the radio and knew she wanted to be a part of that. She was in radio from the 80s until the early 2000s, when she left traditional radio. Along the way, she said that she was finding her spiritual self the whole time. She began taking spiritual classes and became more aware of what was inside her. Along with the education, she started meditating which was very difficult for her at first. At one point she was meditating for an hour a day for one hundred days straight.
She went into the one-hundred days feeling very depressed and within the first week she said she was already feeling a lot better. The most important thing about this experience was really getting rid of the hold that her thoughts had on her. She realized that you need to have an experience like this in order to see your life more clearly, simply hearing people give this advice doesn’t do enough. Camille admits that her family was skeptical of her retreat and one-hundred days of meditation, but did realize a change in her afterward. Even though it was a struggle, she was very proud of herself after the one-hundred days. For her, it was an abrupt awakening about her life and story.
In the process of writing her book, The Confusion Experiment, she gained a lot of self-confidencend realized that she was “awesome”. She didn’t really enjoy the process of writing the book and marketing it because she was unfamiliar with it, but in the end, it benefitted her immensely. After the book, she still meditates daily. She and Sam then go through a 60-second breathing practice with the listeners. She is now spending most of her time in New Jersey, but she still finds time to be one with nature. Camille says that a couple of things readers should take away from her book is that they’re not alone and to learn how to battle through the process of confusion. She also teaches a course which is at thisawkaneningspirit.com. In the future, Camille plans to write another book and create a new podcast about caregiving.
