Sam welcomes Dr. Kirk Schneider to the show. Dr. Schneider tells his story of growing up with an interest in psychology. Dr. Schneider then describes his understanding of awe and how awe makes us aware of the mystery and unknown in the context of our lives. He notes how awe allows us to wonder and venture deeper into our curiosity about life. They discuss what moments in life give them awe.
Sam and Dr. Schneider move to The Spirituality of Awe:Challenges to the Robotic Revolution. Dr. Schneider describes his perception that the world has become focused on instant results and technology at the expense of living in the moment. They discuss the negative effects and challenges of the “Robotic Revolution”. They agree that individuals should take time to reflect on their lives and ask how are we willing to live.
Sam and Dr. Schneider continue their conversation around how we can cultivate awe in life. Sam mentions how awe can engender love for self, others, and the world around us. They define the spirituality of awe, noting spirituality as a connection to nature and the cosmos. Dr. Schneider explains how spirituality is present in cultures throughout the world and has potential to unite people.
