Norma Hollis joins the show to share her expertise in today’s topic: authenticity. Norma discusses how authenticity emerged as a theme throughout her life. She traces her past careers and how each past position reinforced her interest in authenticity. She notes how society shifts roughly every 40 years between desires for individual growth (“me”) or collective growth (“we”). Norma shifts to the topic of authentic leadership and its importance in life.
Sam and Norma take a listener’s question regarding detachment from work. Norma and Sam remind us to work in places where we feel celebrated not just tolerated. Norma describes her authenticity grid, which she uses the grid to teach clients what they need to do to live more authentically. Sam brings up how we often find our authentic selves are different from what society wants. They agree that we can all find ways to embody our authentic selves.
Norma discusses her work with government organizations and how she tries to shift the patterns of leadership in our society. She explains the Industrial Age way of leadership and how our current Empowerment Age requires us to help employees self actualize.
