In his first show for 2019, Tony opens the show welcoming Jordan McCarthy from Tech Impact. He helps many businesses with technical tools, analyses, and strategies to maximize the social impact. Jordan describes his services as if it was like an IT shop for non-profits. He and Tony talk about the ideas to make sure non-profit organizations have the technology that they need for their day-to-day operations. Plus, Tech Impact going through a merger with another company, and how more organizations need to have more security and find better ways to reach out to people.
Tony and Jordan begin this segment continuing the conversation on how the corporate sector does very well with investments and reaching out to people about their making their companies better. Jordan reiterates that investing in better technology, non-profits will make help their organizations with their reach to others and most importantly, more security and protection will be in place. Also, Jordan talk about the risks of having modern technology, especially when it comes to the organization’s intellectual property, data loss, spam, and many more. Plus, how it has become cheaper and easier for hackers to attack many companies, including Tech Impact and many other non-profits that are not fully secure.
Tony and Jordan talk about the time attackers went after Tech Impact. While Tony was very surprised by what had happened, Jordan mentions that since a lot of the company’s information is online it still makes them a target. Jordan also says that attackers will find every single way to try and break in to the organization’s server, even if it means making phone calls to help with phishing scams. Also, Jordan states that having company policies is huge for security Then, the guys speak about having staff meetings on protecting email and business accounts that will help combat attackers from stealing information from the organization and its employees.
Jordan moves on to talking about malware. He explains what malware is and how having that and other types of malicious software, can influence attackers to go after companies. Also, technical safeguards to keep computer systems safe, making sure all computers and phones are updated frequently, and centralization of systems for big organizations. Jordan then lists plenty of resources that users and listeners can trust and tips on how to find the best program to use to protect computers.
