[EPISODE 121] Seeing Red
This show “Seeing Red”, is a show entirely dedicated to the color Red. The first in our series of December Christmas Design Shows I have color expert and color consultant Betsy Karp to talk all about it.
Seeing Red – The color that is so much apart of all of us. The color that protects us. That symbolizes courage and power, that fills our hearts with love and our minds with passion. We are going to talk about the history of red at Christmas time including why Santa’s suit is red, and why Rudolph has a red nose.
I explore using red inside our homes. Why red rooms are challenging and worthy of thoughtful consideration. Listen live tonight, perhaps with a glass of red wine or a piece of red velvet cake.
Today marks the beginning of the series of Christmas Design Shows. To begin this week’s program, David talks about the color red and why he believes it is a superior color, especially with love, art, the holiday season, and most importantly, how we perceive it. In his mind, David thinks that this color is in the center of our lives. He goes on to introduce color expert and consultant Betsy Karp, as they go on a journey to talk about the amazing color red.
Betsy Karp is our special guest this week. Like David, she both can’t get enough with the color red and the energy that it gives her on a daily basis. The two spend time going through the history of red throughout mankind, their favorite moments with red, how people connect and respond to the color, and how it is present in all art forms. Plus, how red is used a lot in science and a little about how the color is associated with Christmas and decorating.
David and Betsy move on to explain how red is a very powerful color. Betsy believes that red is unique because just seeing the color can make one person feel differently in a short period of time It gets to the point where people can think of the color and take action on certain things in life. Then they have a conversation on using red for interior designs, whether that’s a home or in any other space. David and Betsy mention that designers need to be very careful when using red since it can make a difference between walking into a comfy, lovable, energetic room and walking into a room that can bring on negative feelings.
David ends the show taking questions from listeners about the color red. Betsy joins in to give advice on red picture frames, furniture, how much red is too much red, the glamour and elegance of the color, and can this color really bring out someone’s personality?
