Joan, Priya, and Katie start June off with Sue Matthews, the author of Paint Your Hair Blue, in this week’s episode of Follow Me Friday.
Joan and Priya begins the segment by promoting David from Building the Blockchain and introducing their many interns. Then, they introduce this week’s topic, which is the month of June. Katie tells us about Rabid Rabbit, which supposedly grants good luck when it is the first thing to be said at the beginning of the month. Joan and Priya introduces their promotional partners, KindIt Notes and Cyberbabies: Musical and Comedy. Joan talks about her win of the week, running into 3 Intrepid veterans on Memorial day and interviewing them. Priya discusses her win of her week of meeting the astronaut Clayton Anderson, with whom she tweeted back and forth.
In the second segment, Joan thanks everyone who is watching on Facebook and introduces Sue Matthews, the author of Paint Your Hair Blue and president of Taylor Matthews Foundation, which helps children with pediatric cancer. Sue lost her daughter Taylor to cancer at the young age of 16, which led her to write the book and found the organization. She describes Taylor as playful and full of life even at the height of her sickness, and Sue states that her fighting for the sick is exactly what her daughter would want her to be doing. Taylor was the one who wanted to begin the charity, and she left her legacy through the non-profit foundation, helping those who came after her.
Joan begins the third section with 3 for 3 with Katie. Katie describes her time in the fashion industry and notes that it was a toxic industry; she states that such a toxic environment is spreading to other fields as well, and that bullying in the workplace should be addressed and dealt with through compassionate leadership. Then, the group continues with their discussion of the book with Sue and Andrea, Sue’s sister who joins the conversation. Andrea talks about the writing process and how they worked together to write a book that can be relatable and helpful to other families that have gone through similar circumstances. They noted that the book was cut in half to only include parts that would be a positive influence to the readers.
In the final section, Joan and Priya invite a guest caller Lohan, who has also lost a child and is writing a book of her own. She is writing to give hope to others in a similar situation and to teach how to find joy even in the worst of situations. Then, Sue finishes the story of how she, with Taylor and Andrea, sneaked out of the hospital to get ice cream. Andrea talks about how she continues to live her life to the fullest, as worrying about tomorrow won’t change tomorrow. The book is available on now Kindle and for pre-order on Amazon. The website for the Taylor Matthews Foundation and the book will be shared on Facebook.
